Social media has transformed reading into the favourite pastime of millions of young people around the world. #BookTok – a hashtag on TikTok that brings together everything book-related on the platform – has received in excess of 200 billion views since it first appeared in 2020, and it is now hard to find a bookshop anywhere without its own #BookTok display. BookTok influencers Jack Edwards, Ayman Chaudhary and Jasmine Darban are three of the most influential figures in the digital reading sphere with a combined following of more than 3.6 million people.
