Suddenly it’s October, autumn, and we’re already starting to think about and plan for next year’s Book Fair. It promises to be a lustful endeavor. Perhaps you’ve seen some of the films by the Chinese filmmaker Wong Kar-wai? We envision that the Book Fair 2025 will be a bit like them—dramatic and filled with love and lust. We are simply In the Mood for Love.

Theme: Love and Lust at the Book Fair 2025

In 2025, the Book Fair will explore humanity’s most fundamental and complex emotions: love and lust. Throughout history, love has been a central theme in literature, art, and philosophy, while lust is a force that permeates both the bodily and emotional aspects of our existence. Together, these themes reflect universal human experiences. Love and Lust as themes offer depth and breadth to a subject that never ceases to fascinate.

Love will be illuminated from all perspectives—ranging from fiction and poetry to philosophy and psychology. Everything from the ideals of romance and the role of eroticism to complex issues of sexual identity and relationships in an increasingly digital age will be addressed. At the same time, we will discuss how our views on love and lust have changed over time, as we learn more about their significance for health and well-being. From a societal perspective, we will explore how norms and cultural beliefs have evolved and how they affect our relationships and experiences of intimacy today.

The theme creates a space where visitors can encounter a multitude of stories about intimacy, relationships, and humanity’s constant search for closeness and meaning. It inspires reflection on what it means to love and to lust, both physically and emotionally, and provides visitors with new perspectives on both old and modern literature about love and lust.

Theme: Drama at the Book Fair 2025

The theme of Drama will highlight drama as a genre and connect it to the performing arts, opening up new perspectives on human relationships and intense emotions. The theme explores how drama, from classical tragedies to contemporary plays, captivates and challenges us. It is organized in collaboration with Colombine Teaterförlag, Theatre Info Finland TINFO (Finland), Dramatikkens hus (Norway), and Esti Teatri Agentuur (Estonia).

More information about the themes and initiatives for 2025 will be available soon.
