Mieko Kawakami

Mieko Kawakami
Description

An icon from Japan
Mieko Kawakami is one of the most prominent authors in the wave of Japanese literature that has swept over the world in recent years. Her debut novel Breasts and Eggs provoked conservative Japan through its openness about body ideals and voluntary childlessness, but at the same time made her an icon among younger generations. In All the Lovers in the Night and Heaven (recently translated to Swedish by Vibeke Emond), she continues her portrayals of people living on the fringes of Japanese society and its strict norms. She will be discussing her writing with Yukiko Duke.
