This year, the Gothenburg Book Fair’s achievement award, Sjöjungfrun (The Mermaid), will be awarded to one of the most influential literary voices of our time. Jamaica Kincaid is a witty and incisive writer whose novels and essays shine a sobering light on everything from colonial history and family ties to the flowers in our gardens. After the Book Fair’s Programme Director Oskar Ekström has presented the hand-carved mermaid statuette, Jamaica Kincaid will be interviewed by journalist Jessika Gedin. The Sjöjungfrun award is presented in partnership with Arctic Paper.
